Passion and Intuition create Results

About Me:

Artist Bio: Miriam Rieck

Miriam Rieck is a passionate, sensual, intuitive artist/photographer based in Austin, Texas. Her work in the past had focused on music as well as Western Lifestyles. She is currently focusing on portraiture, including male nudes.

Her style is “plein air”.  She believes in witnessing subjects in their natural surroundings and capturing their evocative emotions. She uses conversation and verbal prompts to help her subjects reach those emotions.

She believes that art can be used as a tool for conversation on subjects like our inherent erotic nature and promoting equality in seeing full frontal male subjects as worthy of art imagery like women are.

Artist Statement: Miriam Rieck

My photography is a means of self-expression and self-growth. I use it to identify and explore qualities in my character, as well as a forum to heal not just myself but others from trauma by offering them a lens to be witnessed as they are and not as they think they are.

I use photography to document the world around me. I look for the images that capture my attention and allow me to document the stories most people overlook-homelessness, taboo subjects, cruelty both unseen and obvious. My choice of subjects/story come from a place of intuition and is fueled by a passionate desire to tell the story as I see it. Hoping it sparks a conversation that leads to a change in both individual and societal perspective. My choice of subject comes from a place of intuition and is fueled by a passionate desire to partake and share the stories that are all around me.

I photograph people in a natural “plein air” environment because I want to be the witness not the director and capture the soul and emotions that lay behind the eyes.

Recently I have begun to work with full frontal male nudity. I want to challenge our norms of male beauty. Stepping into full frontal male nudity portraiture allows me to interact with men in a non-sexual manner. At the same time, it allows men, of all body types, gender classifications and disabilities to express themselves as erotic, sensual subjects. My subjects for this portraiture may come from me approaching men that inherently spark what I feel constitutes true male beauty and emotional connection or from a subject that feels he has a story to share and wants to be “seen”.

We tend to see the male nude in one of several lenses; as an athlete with no genitalia present(androgynous) or as a porn subject (gay) or objectified in much the same way we do women.

Full nude male photography allows all of us to have a conversation and create a foundation upon which we can build a world of new relationships, new beginnings and new stories that lead to the dissemination of rape culture, the acceptance of male emotional expression and to true equality of the sexes.
